Heron Cottage

Pros: The views are spectacular. The house is well furnished and supplied and very comfy. The last bit getting in is a dirt track. We were up for this but not everyone might be. If you want absolute quiet at night apart from the wind, you'll love it. Coming from a big city, we did. There is coffee and tea with cow's milk and sugar supplied for breakfast but nothing else. That suited us as we'd brought what we liked to have.

Cons: There is not a lot of light in the lounge so if it's getting dark on your arrival and you're trying to light the stove (as it's cold outside and a bit inside), the firelighting instructions in the manual are a bit vague. We have stoves at home but had to call on our host to help us out with this when we arrived. She was gracious and helpful and we had an excellent weekend once we got to know the stove. (Summertime visitors can ignore the stove stuff.) WiFi signal is very weak so bring a booster if you need one.

We were looking for something off grid, perfect in every way regarding our stay.

Pros: Stunning location and scenery, rustic cottage with heaps of character.

Cons: Maybe an area to clean walking boots prior to entering the property, otherwise perfect.

Idyllic country cottage

Pros: The cottage was idyllic, cosy and very well appointed. The owner couldn't have done more to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

Cons: Nothing not to like.
