Tyr Graig Castle

This impressive Victorian building has a splendid cliff-top location with stunning views of Cardigan Bay. It offers free parking and a restaurant, and is less than a mile from Barmouth’s centre. Each room at this 4-star guest accommodation has a TV and DVD player, as well as free tea and coffee. Most rooms enjoy lovely sea views, whilst all have a private bathroom with a hairdryer. Built in the 1880s for a famous gunmaker, Tyr Graig Castle was designed to resemble both a castle and a double-barrelled shotgun. Today it still has original features, including stained glass windows. The lounge has a log fire and drinks are available from the adjoining conservatory bar. There is also a terrace with superb views over the water. Overlooking Cardigan Bay, Tyr Graig’s restaurant offers traditional home-cooked British and Welsh food. The creative menu is made with the finest local, fresh and seasonal produce.

X.mas stay at the castle

Pros: The people who ran the hotel were great. The first night I was cold and asked for a blanket, which I got got for the remainder of our stay. I was warm from then on. Breakfast was good and was well cooked. Not to far from Varmouth. You could walk or drive.

Cons: They only has Carlsberg on tap, but I made do with bottled beer which I liked

Tyr Graig Castle was a beautiful little find.

Pros: Tyr Graig Castle was a beautiful little find. Trudy the owner was an amazing host, very friendly and accommodating and Mike makes an amazing breakfast. Our room was in a Turret with a gorgeous view, it was clean and tidy. We will definitely be back as the building alone was beautiful, It was old and had lots of character, and very well kept. But Trudy and Mike made us feel most welcome in their home.
